Peripheral nerve surgery

Peripheral nerves may be entrapped at different sites in our body or become damaged. This may lead to serious disabilities due to sensory and muscle function loss, as well as so-called neuropathic pain. We conduct research in Utrecht that aims to prevent neuropathic pain and improve surgical treatments. Additionally, tumors may arise in nerves. Benign tumors may be excised without damaging the nerve, while malignant nerve tumors commonly necessitate the resection of the parent nerve. We therefore look into options to reduce postoperative morbidity caused by such surgeries.
